Lennox Head — Mediterranean Outdoor Living
Lennox Head sits between the hinterland and the beach. The best outdoor spaces here do the same — grounded in natural material, open to the evening.
This courtyard starts with a wood-fired pizza oven and builds outward. Stone paving, a custom curved timber bench, structured Mediterranean planting, and considered lighting. Every element chosen to work together, and to age well.
Built to last.
Designing a Mediterranean Outdoor Living Space
This outdoor area works because every element serves a clear purpose. Warm natural stone, textured renders, generous paving, and structured planting chosen for form and resilience in the Northern Rivers climate. The layout draws people toward a central gathering point — soft curves defining the edges, layers of planting giving the space an established quality from the day it's finished.
No wasted space. No competing features. A Mediterranean-inspired space with strong intent will always outperform a larger, unfocused one.
A Garden With a Sense of Place
Lennox Head’s light does half the work. The Mediterranean palette — limestone, recycled brick, olive, and structured green — sits naturally here, where the coastal sun and salt air already echo the landscapes that inspired it.
This isn’t a themed garden. It’s a considered response to climate and character, using materials and plants that belong on this coast as naturally as they do on the one they’re borrowed from. With over 25 years designing and building in the Northern Rivers, we know how to make these elements work together in our conditions.
Limestone Pool Surrounds
Limestone was selected for the pool surrounds for its performance as much as its appearance. It stays cool underfoot in full sun, handles salt air and chlorine splash without deteriorating, and develops a natural patina that improves with age rather than looking worn.
The pale, warm tone ties the pool area back to the broader Mediterranean palette — connecting the water to the garden rather than treating the pool as a separate element dropped into the yard.
Recycled Brick — Fire Pit and Outdoor Kitchen
The fire pit and outdoor kitchen are built from recycled brick — a material that brings immediate warmth and age to a space that could otherwise feel too new. Recycled brick has a weight and texture that new materials can’t replicate, and in a Mediterranean-inspired setting it feels entirely at home.
The outdoor kitchen is designed for serious use — not a decorative feature but a functional space that earns its place in the garden. The fire pit sits alongside it, turning the whole area into an outdoor room that works from lunch through to late evening.
Planting With Intention
Olives, lavender, rosemary, and structured hedging carry the Mediterranean character through the garden. These species were chosen for resilience as much as aesthetics — they handle coastal sun, salt air, and dry periods without fuss, and hold their form through the seasons with minimal maintenance.
The planting softens the hard edges of the limestone and brick without competing with them. Structure and greenery in balance.
Built for Living Outside
The outdoor living space sits at the heart of the project — not bolted on afterward but designed as the reason the garden exists. The kitchen, fire pit, pool, and planting are all oriented around how the family actually uses the space rather than how it looks in a photograph.
This is construction-led design in practice — landscape and living space designed and built as one project by one team, from concept through to the final plant in the ground.
The Result
The finished space feels like a European escape while remaining deeply connected to the Lennox Head lifestyle — warm, inviting, and built to be enjoyed for decades.

FAQ
-
Limestone stays cool underfoot in direct sun, handles salt air and pool chemicals well, and ages naturally rather than fading or staining. It’s a practical choice in coastal conditions as much as an aesthetic one.
-
Yes. Recycled brick handles heat well and performs reliably in outdoor conditions. It also brings immediate character to a space — the texture and variation you get with recycled material can’t be replicated with new brick.
-
Olives, lavender, rosemary, structured hedging (box or pittosporum), and drought-tolerant ornamental grasses all perform well. These species handle coastal sun and occasional dry periods without requiring irrigation or constant upkeep.
-
Yes. We integrate outdoor kitchens into the landscape design from the start rather than treating them as a separate trade. The result is a kitchen that belongs in the garden rather than sitting alongside it.
-
Yes — Mediterranean planting and materials are well suited to coastal NSW conditions. The combination of limestone, recycled brick, and drought-tolerant planting is specifically chosen to perform in salt air and coastal sun.
-
With the right plant selection and soil preparation, the hardscaping and structure look finished immediately, while the planting softens and fills in over 12–18 months. The garden looks intentional from day one and improves with time.
-
Yes. We provide ongoing maintenance packages tailored to this style — focusing on light pruning, weed control, and seasonal care so the garden continues to look its best with minimal effort.
