A boundary wall should do more than mark a line. Hand-shaped limestone, capped in bluestone — built to hold its own from the street, not just sit at the edge of it.

Designing a Boundary Wall With Real Presence
Most boundary walls are treated as a functional afterthought — render, block, or a pre-cast panel doing the minimum job of marking the property line. This one was built as a feature in its own right: hand-shaped limestone the length of the wall and piers, capped in bluestone for a clean, finished edge.
The limestone brings a textured mix of greys, browns and light blues through the wall, with colour and movement that shifts along its length rather than reading as one flat tone. That contrast — a naturally varied stone against a smooth cut cap — is the whole idea.
Design & Construction
Every piece of limestone was hand-shaped rather than cut to a uniform pattern. Each one was individually set and laid, not fitted to a repeating module. That's what gives the wall its texture and colour movement — no two sections read the same.
Bluestone capping runs along the top of the wall and piers. It gives a clean, level line against the irregular limestone below, and it does real work too — shedding water off the top rather than letting it sit on exposed joints.
The Result
Stand at the street and the wall holds its ground — hand-shaped limestone shifting between grey, brown and light blue along its length, bluestone running clean and level above it. Nothing about it looks like it came off a truck ready-made.
This is a boundary that was built, not installed.
