A pool garden built for privacy on a tight block. Jarrah decking, light ledger stone cladding and a bamboo-style screen close off sightlines from neighbouring properties.
The brief called for full privacy around the pool without a solid boundary fence closing the space in.
Designing a Tropical Garden That Holds Its Privacy
This garden is built around the pool and the privacy problem. Jarrah hardwood decking wraps the pool edge as one continuous surface. Light ledger stone cladding lifts the finish on the garden's vertical surfaces — a lighter, more textured face than a painted or rendered wall. The bamboo-style screen carries the privacy work, closing off the sightline from neighbouring yards without a solid fence.
No solid boundary fence. No exposed pool edge. Buffalo turf fills the open ground between the deck and the garden beds, with tropical planting worked in around the stone cladding.

Jarrah hardwood decking surrounds the pool, chosen for its density and suitability in a wet-area application. Light ledger stone cladding finishes the garden's feature surfaces, giving a textured, light-toned face in place of a flat rendered finish.
Screening, Turf & Planting
The bamboo-style screen runs along the boundary line — a manufactured privacy screen with a bamboo look, not a planted bamboo hedge, so there's no growth or spread to manage over time. Buffalo turf sits between the deck and the garden beds, and tropical planting fills the beds around the stone cladding.
The Result
A pool garden that closes off the neighbours without closing off the sky. The screen and stone cladding do the privacy and finish work; the jarrah decking, turf and planting make the space usable day to day.
